Shant Vartanian, M.D. is an assistant professor in the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He has been with UCSF since 2003, completing his residency in General Surgery and a fellowship in Vascular Surgery.

He has played a leading role in the revitalization of the Vascular Surgery program at ZSFG. The rapidly maturing program routinely handles aortic trauma, complex endovascular interventions and is a busy clinical practice offering care for peripheral vascular and venous disorders for San Francisco Health Network (SFHN) patients. Dr. Vartanian started and is the medical director of the Vascular Lab, which performs over 1200 non-invasive diagnostic studies for the ZSFG community annually. His clinical research is focused on comparative effectiveness, quality improvement for dialysis access and innovations in dialysis access delivery.

Dr. Vartanian is interested in comparing the effectiveness of endovascular treatments for peripheral arterial disease. By understanding the safety, effectiveness, and cost of each intervention, the aim of the research is to assist patients and clinicians in making informed decisions about treatment options.
