Biography
Dr. Neelima Katragunta is a vascular surgeon with more than a decade of experience treating complex vascular disease using both minimally invasive endovascular techniques and open surgery. Her clinical expertise includes peripheral artery disease and limb preservation, carotid artery disease and stroke prevention, aortic aneurysms and dissections, complex venous disease, and dialysis access. She has expertise in the latest advances in limb preservation and carotid artery disease, using both minimally invasive endovascular and open surgical techniques to restore blood flow, prevent amputation, and reduce the risk of stroke. She works closely with each patient to select a treatment that is appropriate for their anatomy, overall health, and individual goals.
Dr. Katragunta has a longstanding commitment to surgical education and mentorship. She began her academic career as an assistant professor of vascular surgery at the University of Iowa. She subsequently joined Stanford University as a clinical associate professor of vascular surgery. Most recently, she was an associate professor of vascular surgery at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, where she served as Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship. Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in training and mentoring vascular surgery fellows, residents, and medical students.
Dr. Katragunta has a strong interest in developing and strengthening vascular programs. She has experience expanding vascular services, developing referral networks, improving clinical operations, and bringing together multidisciplinary teams to improve access and outcomes for patients with vascular disease. At UCSF, she serves as Medical Director of Vascular Services at Stanyan and Hyde Hospitals, where she is leading the expansion of UCSF vascular surgery services and working with multidisciplinary teams to further develop comprehensive vascular care across the campuses.
Dr. Katragunta earned her medical degree from Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, India. She completed her general surgery residency at East Tennessee State University and her vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. She is board certified in vascular surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
